EatRaw is proud to present high quality whole raw cacao beans. Our raw cacao beans from Peru are of the premium criollo variety used by the finest chocolate makers. These are not the bulk frontera variety beans used by low quality chocolate makers or discount sellers. The difference is in the taste. These premium raw cacao beans are richer in flavor and impart the noticeable chocolate taste found in the finest gourmet chocolates.
Chocolate beans are the source of all chocolate, cocoa and cocoa butter. Cacao (Theobroma Cacao) is the fruit of an Amazonian tree which grows through out Central and South America. Theobroma literally means “Food of the Gods” - as these cacao beans were so highly cherished by the Aztecs and Mayans that they were often used as currency and in religious ceremonies.
Today organic, raw cacao is gaining in popularity as a nutritious raw superfood. Cacao is incredibly rich in Magnesium and is most likely the number 1 source for this essential mineral. Other essential minerals present in Cacao are Calcium, Zinc, Iron, Copper, Sulfur, Magnesium and Potassium. The cacao bean also contains more antioxidant flavanoids than any other food tested - including blueberries, red wine and green tea. In fact studies have shown Cacao to have over twice as many antioxidants as red wine and three times as much as green tea.
Raw cacao contains many chemicals that enhance physical and mental well-being, including alkaloids, proteins, magnesium, beta-carotene, leucine, linoleic acid, lipase, lysine, and some neurotransmitters such as dopamine and anandamide which is the so-called "bliss" chemical associated with the feeling of being in love. Raw chocolate also contains theobromine which is similar in effect to caffeine.
We were extremely picky in our selection of our raw cacao bean supply. We carry only heavy metal tested raw cacao beans from a large organic estate grower who values their product, their land and their employees. You may ask ‘why so picky?’ We know our clients are savvy consumers who appreciate sustainable farming practices and know that many bulk growers do not test their soil and possibly expose the end consumer to high levels of heavy metals like Lead and Cadmium. We eat what we sell and care about our family’s health.
